Tetris Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Each time a prominent awards ceremony draws close, one notices a clamor for the addition fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and delight the passions of followers dedicated to specific genres.

A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other single-minded supporters, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies don’t do it. But it is a necessary evil in the world of video games, showing incredible range they barely qualify as a single art form.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these classifications covering Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these classifications effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Different situation exists for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Examine these examples from this year’s best games, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked for anything in 2014
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience got ignored in 2021
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for best game of all time. Brain-teasers form essential building blocks within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, producing among most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
